메가데쓰(Megadeth)의 13번째 정규앨범인 TH1RT3EN을 발매하였습니다.
타이틀 TH1RT3EN 을 봐도 유추할 수 있듯이 13에 얽힌 복합적인 의미가 담겨있음을 느낌으로 알 수 있는데요..
역시 13번째 정규앨범이라는 뜻도 있지만,13살때 처음 기타를 배우고 9월13일 생인 리더 데이브 머스테인(Dave Mustain) 자신의 의미가 강하다고 할 수 있습니다.
메가데쓰 밴드 자체가 데이브의 원 프론트 이기는 하지만 너무 대놓고 말하는 경향이 있죠? ㅎㅎ . 그게 데이브 머스테인의 매력이기도 합니다.
이번앨범은 또한 13곡이 실려있는데요, 서양인들이 싫어하는 숫자인 13으로 아예 도배하다시피 한 앨범입니다만 앨범 곡을 접해보면 그리 단순한 이벤트성 앨범이 아닌 것을 확인하실 수 있습니다.
특히, 메가데쓰의 초창기부터 2002년까지 다른 한 축을 담당해왔으나 서로 철천지 원수로 돌아서서 다시는 안볼것 같던 베이스 멤버인 데이브 엘레프슨(Dave Ellefson) 이 전격 합류한 후 첫번째 내놓은 앨범이라는데 의미도 큽니다.
어쨌든 데이브 무스테인이 메탈리카와도 화해하고 데이브 엘레프슨과도 화해하고...멋대로인 본래성격에 절대 양보나 타협을 모르는 사람일줄 알았는데말이죠.
어쨌든,첫번째로 내놓은 타이틀 싱글곡인 Public Enemy No. 1 을 들어보시면 더욱 세련된 메가데쓰의 음악을 접할 수 있습니다. 개인적으로는 첫번째 곡인 Sudden Death 가 메가데쓰 스타일에 더 어울리는 곡이라 느껴집니다만...
어쨌든 스트레이트(straight)하다는 말로 이번 앨범을 정리하고 싶네요. 날것에서 완전히 벗어난 쓰레쉬메탈(Thrash Metal)의 진수를 맛보실 수 있습니다.
앨범표지에서 볼 수 있듯이, “음악이 너무 신나서 과속운전 단속에 걸려도 우리 책임은 아니다”라는 점을 명심하시길!!!!
